Measuring information

All measuring information, including the full rulebook, can be found on the RAS website. Visit: http://www.ras.org.nz/equestrian/measuring/

First measure forms can be obtained from us when you arrive at measuring.

Life measures need to get a form in advance from us, fill it out, get a vet to verify it and make sure your horse is branded or microchipped and has to be unshod for the measure. Your horse/pony must be over eight years old or upon attaining a height of 168cm (except where otherwise described in these rules). Shoes must be removed and hooves trimmed except when the horse/pony has attained the height of 168 cm or higher and the horse/pony has presented for three consecutive annual measures from the age of 8 years which are within 0.5 cm of each other, in which case shoes are optional; or if the Horse is over 168cm in which case shoes are optional. If shoes are fitted, only 0.5 cm allowance can be made. No allowance shall be made for think or worn racing plates or shoes.

Re-measures are straight forward, just come along and have a re-measure!

Horses / Ponies (excluding miniatures) 3 years and over are required to be presented for measuring in a bridle and shall have a bit in their mouth. The reins or the lead shall be connected to the bit.

If you have purchased a new horse or pony recently that has been measured in the past, please ensure you have filed the change of ownership with the RAS. Forms can be found : https://www.ras.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Change-Ownership.Classification.Replacement-Certificate.pdf .
